For 45 years, John Kaldor has invited leading international artists to present groundbreaking public artworks in sites across Australia, free of charge.
Major projects have been created by contemporary masters including Christo and Jeanne Claude, Nam June Paik and Jeff Koons, leaving an indelible impact on the history of global and Australian public art.
From today, you can access high resolution imagery supported with detailed information about each of Kaldor’s 28 public exhibitions on the Google Art Project. By preserving and promoting Kaldor Public Art Projects' transformative cultural projects online, we hope to give more art lovers around the world the opportunity to explore, appreciate and learn about Australia’s vibrant love affair with public art installations.
Anyone with an internet connection can now be virtually transported to Little Bay in 1969, to explore the inaugural Kaldor Public Art Project, Project 1 Wrapped Coast created by Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1969, or reminisce about their favourite performance art pieces from this year’s 13 Rooms exhibition.
Over the next few months, the Kaldor Public Art Project collection on the Google Art Project will expand to include more images, stories and video content for each of their exhibitions. We hope you enjoy revisiting previous Kaldor Public Art Projects and will be inspired to check out internationally acclaimed Slovakian artist Roman Ondák’s new trio of works, including the world debut of 'Terrace' (2014) from 10-24 January next year at Parramatta Town Hall for Kaldor Public Art Project 28.
